Welcome to the Rotary Club of Sun Lakes, Arizona

Rotary Club of Sun Lakes (Chartered April 22, 1986) is a leadership organization made up of men and women from local businesses, professional, education, civic and emerging leaders.  We meet regularly, get to know each other, form friendships, and through that we’re able to get things done in our greater Sun Lakes community.  Come join us and share our passion for community service and friendship.

Latest News
Congratulations to Gary Kay:
The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes proudly recognizes Gary Kay as the November 2025 Rotarian of the Month.

Leadership in STEM Education:
Gary has demonstrated exceptional leadership by heading the K-8 education AWIM (A World in Motion) project, which supports STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) initiatives. Under his guidance, the project featured exciting Jet Car and Gravity Cruiser competitions. These events took place at several local schools, including Fullerton Elementary and Carlson Elementary within the Chandler Unified School District, as well as the K-5 Casa Blanca Community School in the Gila River Indian Community.

Additional Contributions:
Beyond his work in STEM education, Gary has been actively involved in other important educational programs. He assisted with organizing the 4-Way Test speech competition, supported the awarding of education scholarships, and contributed to both K-12 Teacher Recognition and K-12 Educator of the Year Recognition initiatives. Through these efforts, Gary Kay has made a significant impact on the educational opportunities and recognition of students and educators in our community.
Annual Veterans Day Commemoration
The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes proudly marks its 39th year of honoring the memory and service of the men and women who have served, and are currently serving, in all branches of the United States Military. This longstanding tradition is especially meaningful to our club, as many of our own members are veterans. Each year, the club’s meeting in November, coinciding with Veterans Day, is recognized as a particularly special occasion, dedicated to showing appreciation for their sacrifices and contributions.

Commitment to the Sun Lakes Veterans Memorial
In addition to our annual observance, we remind both our new and long-standing members of the club’s ongoing commitment to honoring veterans within our community. In 2015, the Rotary Club of Sun Lakes contributed $2,000 to support updates and further construction of the Veterans Memorial located in Phase 1 of Sun Lakes. Since making this significant donation, our club has actively participated in several Veterans Day celebrations held at this beautiful memorial, reinforcing our dedication to remembering and supporting those who have served our nation.
It is that time of year again when we start getting ready for our 32nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament being held at the Sun Lakes Oakwood Country Club on March 8, 2026.  This has consistently been a sellout event every year, so get your foursome together and signup early.
The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes is privileged to assist Casa Blanca Community School, located within the Arizona Gila River Indian Community. The club has demonstrated ongoing support through a variety of initiatives aimed at enhancing educational experience for students, teachers, and parents.

Educational and Facility Contributions
Several meaningful contributions have been made to the school:
  • Providing dictionaries for all 3rd grade students
  • Providing a mentoring program A World in Motion (AWIM) to encourage math and science
  • Donating over 70 library books to the school library
    • Top picture left to right: Ed Anderson, Debbie Bailey, Principal Kim Franklin, Elaine Ralls, Gary Whiting
  • Supplying two outdoor picnic tables complete with umbrellas for use by students, teachers, and parents

Financial Support
The Sun Lakes Rotary Foundation 2000 presented Principal Kim Franklin with a check for $1,359, specifically designated for the purchase of library books.
Andrew McBride, Director of Engineering at the Gila River Indian Community Utility Authority, contributed a $500 check to be used for acquiring a picnic table and umbrella. In addition, the Sun Lakes Rotary Foundation 2000 provided another check for $500 to support a second table and umbrella. Both donations will be matched by Rotary Club of Sun Lakes funds for the purchase of these two tables with umbrellas.

Impact on the School Community
Principal Kim Franklin expressed enthusiasm for the positive changes these contributions will bring. She is particularly excited that students will now have the opportunity to enjoy reading new books outdoors at the new picnic tables, especially on beautiful fall days.
