Each school year providing over 4,500 3rd Grade Dictionaries has been one of the Rotary Club of Sun Lakes most rewarding projects that students, teachers, and Rotarians look forward to each school year. It was started in 2003, with this year marking our 22nd year of distributing dictionaries to all 3rd graders in the Chandler Unified School District, Title 9 programs, private schools, and this is the 2nd year of including some Gila River Indian Community schools.
What also makes this so special is that the Dictionary contains more than just words and definitions such as world geography, civics, multiplication tables, science, the water cycle, planets, presidents, states and has illustrations for sign language and braille. And once the student writes their name in the dictionary, it becomes their own to use at home and school.
