Doug and his wife, Shirley moved to Sun Lakes in 2003 for their retirement and enjoyed 63 years of marriage until she passed away in December 2016 after fighting Parkinson’s Disease for several years. They have 3 children, 10 grandkids and 9 great-grandkids.

Doug joined the Sun Lakes Rotary Club in 2004, and soon after became the "SPLASH Newspaper” Distribution Chair for the next 10 years which helps the club raise funds for projects and programs.  Additionally, he has been active in two other major fundraising committees, the Pancake Breakfast and the Golf Tournament.

Doug states that through Rotary it is a way to give back to the less fortunate in our Sun Lakes and Chandler communities and is especially proud of helping local education with the 3rd Grade Dictionary project, recognition of outstanding teachers, and mentoring students. He is looking forward to our new Navajo Water project that will help provide inside running water to 25 or more homes on the Navajo Nation.
