The Rotary Club of Sun Lakes is proud to support the vibrant and growing Gila River Basketball Team with a donation of 20 brand-new jerseys — sparking joy, pride, and renewed energy on and off the court!
From humble beginnings with just 10 players, this dynamic co-ed team of tribal youth (ages 4–17) has now blossomed to over 100 participants, fueled by community love and a passion for the game. These young athletes compete in local games and regional tournaments, developing goal-setting skills, building lifelong friendships, and celebrating their heritage with every basket.
With this jersey donation, Rotary's Peacebuilders’ Committee is championing not just sportsmanship but identity, empowerment, and togetherness. The exchange was marked by beaming smiles and a shared commitment to positive youth development, as Rotarians Helvi Winter and Gary Whiting joined Gila River Community Advocates Nancy Santana and Darren Morago in honoring the moment.
It’s more than just basketball — it’s a movement of pride, purpose, and unity.
