Events

Terri Kimbel, CEO of the Chandler Chamber of Commerce, will update us on the latest happenings in the greater Chandler area.

Today we will be celebrating Veterans’ Day, with two speakers.  Tanya Wheeless will share with us her involvement with the USS Arizona Legacy Foundation and other veteran causes.

Gayle King will discuss with us end of life matters of funeral prep, cremation, and medical school donations.

Eric Kerr, Vice President Insights & Development at the Greater Phoenix Convention & Visitors Bureau will update us on his position and Phoenix events.

This meeting will be our Annual Meeting, plus Galveston Elementary School Principal Tony Alcala and School Social Worker Kristian Shanline will tell us how the Dolly Parton Imagination Library has positively impacted their students!

Our Holiday Party will be in the Cottonwood Country Club’s San Tan Ballroom.

Steve Murphy, Founder & Executive Director of “Boys to Men of Greater Phoenix,” will share with us how positive male role models together with boys help create a safe community space where they can discover the man they want to be.

Our speaker will be Past District Governor Alan Havir.  Alan will share with us his rock n’ roll music background and give us a history of Rock n’ Roll drumming.  He and his band have performed in many venues, including arenas in Phoenix and Las Vegas.

In the years of 1962 thru 1966 music history was in the making with a high school band called “The Four Glads” performing at all the major Phoenix night clubs, in Las Vegas with “The Beatles” as a cover band, and being tutored by “The Rat Pack” for comedy and how professional shows go together from the famous comedian, Joey Bishop and singer/actor Sammy Davis Jr.  The lead drummer of The Four Glads was Alan Havir, now an Arizona D5495 Past District Governor (PDG).in Rotary year 2011-12 and member of the Rotary Club of Paradise Valley.

After Alan received his bachelor’s degree in Theatre from Arizona State University and master’s degree in Screenwriting from Loyola Marymount University, he moved to Los Angeles to travel and perform with several musicians from 1976 through 1994, and then back to Phoenix in 1995.

As a Rotarian, he has:

• Promoted and performed in Rotary concerts with “The Kingston Trio.”
• Performed in the 2007-08 Phoenix Rock and Roll Marathon as “The Arizona Rotary Blues Band” for the Rotary Gift of Life-Arizona Foundation.
• Wrote and directed “You’re a Good Rotarian” stage production for several large Rotary Foundation Dinners
• Produced and directed Rotary events such as the Southwest Presidents, President Elects, Treasurers and Secretaries (PETS) Conference, and several west coast District Conferences, and the Zone 26-27 Institute

After 63 years of professionally playing drums, he currently performs with his daughter, Ayana, at local Phoenix area events and enjoys speaking to Rotary clubs and Rotary Youth Leadership Award camps (RYLS) on “The History of Rock Drums”.

Our very own Elaine Ralls will speak on “Communication and Conflict Resolution.”

Our annual The Rotary Foundation and Sun Lakes Rotary Foundation 2000 Dinner will be held at the Palo Verde Country Club.

Larry Williams of Waste Connections of Arizona will highlight today’s recycling and trash management.

Our very own Stephen Phair will update us on his outlook for the stock market and what’s ahead!

Dr. Glynnis Zieman is medical director of the Brain Injury & Sports Neurology Center, plus a neurologist in the Lewis Headache Center of Barrow Neurological Institute.  She will speak to us concerning her current job, including her work as NFL sideline neurotrauma consultant and ASU sideline neurological coverage.

This club meeting will be a Club Business Meeting.

This evening will be our Annual Foundation Dinner, highlighting the excellent The Rotary Foundation and Sun Lakes 2000 Foundation and will be held in the Saguaro Room of the Cottonwood Country Club.

30th Annual Golf Tournament!!!   This will be the biggest and best yet.

Janet McDonald will introduce Tim Jackson, a 30+ year automotive executive, who will address “Future of Mobility”, a look at the past, present and future of personal mobility.

Peter Meade will introduce Haydn Janus, General Manager of the Majestic Chandler 9 movie theater, updating us on recent events there.

During this club meeting we will have our Annual Four-Way Test Speech Contest with a student form each of the six Chandler High Schools participating.  It is our 10^th contest, with Arizona College Prep, Basha, Casteel, Chandler, Hamilton, and Perry high schools competing.

On this day we will have our Spring Picnic at Sisk Park in Palo Verde.

For this meeting the Cottonwood/Palo Verde HOA Manager Steve Hardesty will update us on issues and events in the HOA.

TC Conrad of Ascendants Motorcycle Club will highlight their upcoming “Be the Miracle” fundraiser.

Hanna Hamideh, owner of Precious Elements, will share with us her jewelry designing process. Also speaking will be Dawn Garza, Executive Director of Lily's Pad, who will provide an overview of her organization's services
