Dick was born the oldest of 4 siblings and raised in the Chicago area of Austin.  He was active in both Cub and Boy Scouts and like most other young boys, he started his business career delivering newspapers on his bicycle.  During his early education, he developed an interest in competitive swimming which continued through high school and on into college.  After graduation from Austin High School he attended and graduated from Bradley University in Peoria, IL...
Dick worked his way through college by life guarding on the Chicago Park District beaches of Lake Michigan.  While in college he joined the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity and during his sophomore year met his future wife and they were married in his Senior year.  He graduated with a Business Marketing Degree, and it was immediately off to San Bernardino in Southern California to start his new career with Associates Financial as a subprime lender for the next 20 years which also took him to Reno, NV and Hawaii.  When the economy and the Banking and Savings & Loan crisis erupted in 1984, he left Associates Financial for a new career with FDIC in the Liquidation Division for two years and then on to become a stock broker until retirement.
 
He has a daughter and son by his first marriage.  His second marriage is to Pamela Mason who is a retired English Teacher and they now live in Sun Lakes.  Both are very active in retirement with travel, high performance driver education and helicopter skiing in Canada.  Dick has been a Rotarian since 1992 when he joined the Rotary Club of Portland, OR.  He has served as Club President, several Committee Chairs and served as the District 5100 Polio Plus Chair.  Is a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow and credits Rotary with guiding his thoughts and actions in his professional and personal life via the Four way Test.
